Knowledge & Experience

Filsan Seed Company has the capacity, knowledge and experience to produce/process seed of various crop species. While the seed is produced in the field, the seed processing unit is located in K11, near Zamzam University and is easily accessible to the farmers and partner organizations. Filsan Seed is currently working with some lead farmers in the South West, Jubaland and Hirshabelle States to produce quality seed adapted to local conditions. The facility in KM11, also hosts Filsan laboratory which is fully equipped with a seed quality control lab that are fully functional and meets international standards.

Quality seed production of various crop species is contracted out to seed growers who are supported through a credit scheme. Contract growers are provided with foundation seed, fertilizers and pesticides. The seed growers are properly trained in all aspects of seed production throughout the growing season. Filsan intends to scale up the seed production activity and expand the marketing of quality seed to all farmers in Somalia.

Producing quality seeds adapted to local conditions.

Seeds produced and packaged by Filsan include the following

  • Cereals: Maize and sorghum
  • Legumes: Cowpea and mungbean
  • Oil crops: sesame
  • Vegetables: Tomato, onion, sweet pepper, hot pepper, carrot, watermelon, lettuce and Swiss chard

Filsan intends to scale up the seed production activity and expand the marketing of quality seed to farmers throughout the country.
